Elim History

Elim History – The Elim Movement was founded in Monaghan Ireland in 1915 by George Jeffreys a Welshman who was an outstanding evangelist and church planter. He had a Welsh Congregational background, was strongly influenced by the Welsh Revival of 1904 which is when he surrendered his life to Christ.

He was invited to Ireland in 1915. When he arrived there was such a hunger for the Gospel that crowds turned up to hear him. The need was so great that a group of men, led by Jeffreys, met to discuss how to win Ireland for Christ through the Foursquare Gospel of Jesus the Saviour, Healer, Baptiser and Coming King. They formed what was then called the Elim Evangelistic Band.

Between 1915 and 1934, George Jeffreys conducted some tremendous evangelistic missions. This unknown preacher would commence a mission with a mere handful of people, and by the end of the week, thousands would clamour for a seat. Amazing miracles of healing had taken place. After the mission, very large churches were established. Under the hand of God the Elim Movement grew and developed rapidly.

The name ‘Elim’ is taken from the book of Exodus where the Israelites, exhausted and dispirited en route from Egypt to the Promised Land, came to Elim, an oasis in the desert, where there were twelve wells of water and seventy palm trees Exodus 15.27.

In Elim Ministries we want to be a source of spiritual blessing and refreshment to the people we mix with and move amongst. We want to be an ‘oasis’ to those who are passing through a ‘wilderness’ experience in their lives.

As we look on Irish Society in these early stages of the 21st century we believe we need more than ever to be people who have a vision from God and a vision for God. As leaders within the Fellowship of Elim Ministries we believe that God has given us a definite vision and a burden for our nation at this time.

We are so thankful to the Lord for what has been happening amongst us, especially in recent times. We are experiencing numerical growth, an expanding sphere of ministry and opportunity across the country and also a deepening level of fellowship and relationship as co-workers in God’s field and vineyard.
